Writing for Others

When we think about writing, our intention is usually to create something that we share with others—our families, friends, clients, teachers, community. Thanks to the Internet, our community now includes people around the world.

Writing for others takes on limitless forms. Just a few examples include:

Writing for Ourselves

But writing does not always need to be shared with others. When we write for ourselves, it makes no difference if our spelling and grammar are correct or if we are telling a riveting story.

We write because simply putting our words down on paper—in a journal, in the margins of a book, on a scrap of paper as we are walking—can have almost miraculous benefits.

Writing can stimulate our creativity, unlock our capacity to learn, and enable us to heal. It can open the door to self-knowledge, help us connect with larger, wiser parts of ourselves, and transform our lives.

Putting It All Together

Although the outer forms vary, the most effective writing is united at the core by a story that connects one human being to another.

As a Writing Coach and Freelance Editor, my goal with Story Mentor is to offer services, information and training that can help you achieve your writing goals—whether they are to get accepted to graduate school, grow your business, get published, or discover larger aspects of yourself.

So what are you waiting for? What story do you want to tell?
